This year’s fashion show, themed “Timeless Elegance: Seventy Years of Fashion Evolution,” organised by the Fashion Design Department of Takoradi Technical University, is not just a testament to your support but also a vital part of our community. We are deeply honoured to have you here, and your presence adds significant value to our event.

As we showcase the evolution of fashion over the past 70 years at Takoradi Technical University, we are reminded that our traditions and cultural values are the foundation of our unique and timeless style. In this context, we call upon the young designers of today to draw inspiration from these values and create designs that reflect our heritage. Your presence and support inspire these young designers and play a crucial role in shaping the future of fashion design.

Aside from the academic nature of Fashion shows organised in formal institutions to assess the level of skills acquired by the learners and present the young graduates to the public, they are also meant to help parents see the value of their investment in their wards’ training. This motivates and gives them hope for the future. On the other hand, lecturers who transfer skills to these students desire to see their graduates perform excellently in the fashion industry and are ready to counsel them to realise their dreams.

The transition from school to work is challenging, but with a goal-oriented focus and determination, everyone can be successful. The fashion industry, like any other, has its share of challenges. Studies have found that many young fashion designers struggle with pricing their products. They tend to either overprice or underprice, leading to difficulties sustaining their business. Additionally, personal relationships and meeting deadlines can also be challenging. As a young fashion designer, you must be aware of these issues and consider them in your business practices to succeed in the fashion industry. We understand these challenges and are here to support you in overcoming them.

I want to use this opportunity to inform you that the Department of Fashion Design will soon start the Bachelor of Science and postgraduate programmes. I would like to acknowledge the immense support of the Vice-Chancellor and the entire management of TTU for purchasing 67 brand-new industrial machines for the Department and providing the fittings for setting up the garment lab.

This year, 146 young designers from the department are on the runway to showcase their skills in fashion design.

Last but not least, I commend the fashion show committee, Insight House Event Planners, lecturers, administrators, and national service personnel of the Fashion Department for successfully organising this show.

Thank you.

  1. This is wonderful show which will aid both designers and models to have an opportunity on the runway.
It’s commendable and I hope industry players should take key interest in the development of talents on this front. Kudos to the organisers and more of such events should be done to expose the tremendous talents to the world.
    Well done.
